Good morning. 

So yesterday I didn’t get to blog. I had left the house from 6:15am and got in at about 9pm. What a day! 😳😴😊🙏😇.

I just want to talk to you today about things that keeps us from the presence of God. One of those things are, the things we are obsessed with.

People usually think of serious this like drugs, porn, cigarette, and so on.

Obsessions/ addictions can be anything.

What is Obsession?

…the state of being preoccupied or filled with something or someone continually and to a troubling extent.

…an idea or thought that continually preoccupies or intrudes on a person’s mind.

Corinthians 6:12, All things are lawful for me; but I will not be brought under the power of anything”.

Something I was obsessed with!

Don’t laugh or think it’s silly, let me explain…

…At a point in my life I became really obsessed with chewing gum. I know it may sound silly. But I really really couldn’t do without it.

I would have gum in every purse I owned, every pocket, and I mean everywhere. I could chew one gum the whole day, and making popping irritating sounds.

After having my second and last daughter (YES I MEANT LAST, I don’t want any more than two children thank you! Lol 😊), I was moaning to God all the time that I felt like I was loosing my spiritual being.

He told me “I will teach you discipline and obedience, that will help you put your life in check and make time for me”.

One of the first things he required of me was to stop chewing gum. I thought to myself, you must be kidding me.

I in my marvellous thinking, said oh yes I can do this, it’s only gum. Cutting it short, I decided to buy sweets instead and chewed on that. Before I knew it I had spent more money on sweets than I should.

😳😳 OH MY I WAS OBSESSED WITH GUM!!!

1 Corinthians 9:27, But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

I should have been able to tell my self off for doing that, I thought I was being wise. Then I didn’t hear Gods voice. I asked why are you not talking to me. Then the Holy Spirit reminded that God said he would teach me obidence and discipline and I had failed 🙈🙈🙈🙈Tot tot tot tot!!!

In that instant I realised my (OBSESSION), disobedience was keeping me far away from hearing and keeping in communication with God.

Romans 8:6, Obsession with self in these matters is a dead end; attention to God leads us out into the open, into a spacious, free life.

Don’t swap the space and time with God for any thing else. I once read…,

“If we are obsessed by God, nothing else can get into our lives”. 

“To be obsessed by God is to have an effective barricade against all the assaults of the enemy”.

I’ll add few more…,

“To be obsessed with God will guarantee a clearer hearing of his voice and yielding to his will”

“When you are obsessed with God all other obsessions and sin flee.”

Hebrews 12:1, Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

WHAT ARE YOU OBSESSED WITH???
