The Church Hopper

Who or What is a Church Hopper?

According to the urban dictionary

A church-hopper is an attendant of different churches who avoids church accountability groups because of rejection, embarrassment, hostility, and control.

In addition, to avoid being held accountable for their lifestyle.

You should never be in a Church for the sake of the congregation, pastor or whatever. God should be your main focus and if that be the case you will always find a way to overcome offences. As scripture says,…

Luke 17:1, Then said he unto the disciples, It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe unto him, through whom they come!

We manage not to say we no longer want to be part of our family members lives, when they offend us, we manage to get over it.  Why then do we find it easy to do so with the church brethren. As we know nobody is perfect, therefore what we should always do and remember rather is this scripture.

Ecclesiastes 7:21-22, Do not take to heart all the things that people say, lest you hear your servant cursing you. Your heart knows that many times you yourself have cursed others.

As for offence they will always come, you manage to deal with that annoying boss at work, but you don’t just leave do you? So then let’s try and do according to scripture,…

Ephesians 4:2-3, With all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

When you find yourself church hopping (if you are a spiritual person), you must be special and the devil knows that if you get rooted and planted in a church you will serve a great purpose. So he has assigned demons to constantly give you a reason to keep hopping from one church to another. It is only the devil who hops around…

Job 1:7, And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.

I once had a friend who kept hoping around, it didn’t end well. You see not all  doctrines are from God and while you are hopping around, you are acquiring various spirits from each place you go, some good and some bad. Your mind becomes filled and you end up loosing your mind. Let the Holy Spirit lead you…

John 7:17, any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.

Is God/Holy Spirit telling me to leave?

Psalm 32:8, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.”

If at any point you don’t feel connected with God, and as long as the church has a scripture to back up whatever their culture or doctrines are, check yourself instead. Or you are starting to find faults with the people, studying the bible boring, and church irrelevant, people being judgmental and and so on, it may be that the work of the Holy Spirit is being suppressed in you.

Take your eyes off what people are doing, it’s not your concern. Don’t blame the church and stop going or keep hopping, Christianity is in you. Find a way to reconnect with God. We need each other, there will be at least one person in the church that you can truly connect with and they are also genuine for Christ. After all the church wasn’t made for righteous people.

Hebrews 10:25 we read, “Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching

I have been named once as being the reason someone left the church, but when I taught about it, it was mainly because they didn’t get their way with something.

They don’t want to accept the culture of the church or my authority as a leader, and are not used to the way we do things. As for me it wouldn’t be heard of that it’s because I spoke ill against someone, It will be because I corrected them. I have no apologies for that.

As for such types I have learnt to no longer waste time after attempting to let them understand.

If you are also too big to be corrected then that is something you need to deal with. Wherever you go, it is the same as long as they are in line with the word of God.

Check yourself for pride, it deceives and makes you feel like you are doing the right thing.

Obadiah 1:3 The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who live in the clefts of the rock, in your lofty dwelling, who say in your heart, “Who will bring me down to the ground?”

Let’s get matured spiritually, and put away childish things so that God will remember us an we can be blessed …

1 Corinthians 15:58, Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

Be blessed till next time.

  1. 👌 if I may add, sometimes people may feel they are not growing spiritually or are being fed milk and not food. And it’s nothing to do with any one person but just the season in ones life. It’s ok to move on as the spirit leads

    1. I totally agree with that, especially when what you are being fed is not according or in line with the the word of God. More so even if the word you are being fed is perfect on every level. Remember the pastors are guides and shepherds. We still need to do more outside of church to grow spiritually. Growing spiritually is mostly our responsibility. If you allow a pastor to mentor you then the growth comes easier. Elisha wanted the anointing (grow spiritually) and he kept pressing on. He knew without Elijah he could not be anointed. May God help us to see where we need to be in order to be blessed. 😊
